Clay & Play

The project 'Clay & Play' is a play block set that seeks to explore how the notion of "controlled risk" affects outdoor playgrounds by exploring the modular forms of playgrounds and using materiality to reinterpret them. Paper clay made from scratch is used to shape the forms because of the different textures and imperfections it offers, which contrasts with the standardised playground equipment. Part of this objective is derived from loose parts play that is associated with the target age group of ages 5-8. The purpose of loose parts are open-ended materials that children can adapt, move, design and transform in many different ways.
