The Museum of Modded Experiences

Game modification (mods) is defined as the creation and addition of custom-created content into published games by players. The first instance of modding can be traced back to the 1990’s First Person Shooter (FPS) game Doom created by iD Software, where they allowed players to create their own maps using an in-game level editing software. Due to the development of web and digital technologies, game modification is situated within the settings of a participatory culture.

Though mods are a phenomenon that is often researched, there is little that goes in-depth about the player's experience. This project aims to inform audiences on the different experiences players who use mods go through, as well as inform audiences of the reasons that drive players to use modded content.
